PHILADELPHIA - After a thrilling win that culminated with a go-ahead goal by senior
Levi Anderson with just four seconds remaining, Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse (1-0) continues their 2022 campaign hosting #14 Delaware (2-0) at Sweeney Field on Tuesday. Opening face-off is set for 3:30 with the game being streamed on NEC Front Row.
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Despite falling behind 7-2 at halftime, the Hawks had a dominant second half on Saturday in their home opener, outpacing the Bonnies 10-4.
- Senior Zach Cole was instrumental in the team's victory, winning 20 of his 26 faceoff attempts. The Mount Laurel, N.J. native also collected a game high 12 ground balls.
- Anderson's day was highlighted by his late-game heroics, but the Calgary native's five points spearheaded the Hawks' comeback efforts with three of them coming in the second half.
- Junior Matt Bohmer led the team's scoring effort, scoring three goals in the team's victory. The Charlotte, N.C. native also added an assist in the team's second-half comeback.
- Other goalscorers included graduate student Austin Strazulla, sophomore Carter Page, and senior Tucker Brown with the three totaling two goals apiece. Sophomore William King scored one to round out the Hawks' scoring.
- Graduate student Tucker Almany (1-0) made 12 saves to help himself obtain his tenth career win in the cage.
- In last season's 16-13 loss to Delaware, Bohmer and Anderson combined for 7 of the team's 16 goals.
ABOUT DELAWARE:
- Delaware comes into this game as the #14 ranked team in the nation.
- The Blue Hens are 2-0 on the season, defeating both NJIT and Mount St. Mary's.
- Delaware's leading goalscorer last season, junior Mike Robinson, is off to an incredible start this season. The Peterborough, Ontario native has already scored 7 goals and assisted on four.
- Defender Owen Grant also seems poised to build on his strong campaign last season, where he led the team in caused turnovers with 26. The junior has already caused four to lead the Blue Hens.
- Delaware is looking to get off to their first 3-0 start since 2019.
- Head coach Ben DeLuca is in the midst of his sixth season at Delaware, where he has compiled a 39-26 overall record.
MATCHUP NOTES:
- The Hawks and Blue Hens have played each other 15 times in the programs' respective histories. Delaware has controlled the matchup, winning eleven of the games. Most recently, the Blue Hens emerged victorious last season in Newark, winning 16-13.
