Men’s Lacrosse Continues Home Stretch with Penn State

PHILADELPHIA - Despite a recent setback at the hands of Delaware, Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse will welcome the Nittany Lions of Penn State to Sweeney Field on Saturday. St. Joe's sits at 1-1, while Penn State is currently 1-2. The game will take place at 3:30 p.m. and will be streamed on NEC Front Row.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • Coming off a narrow loss to No. 14 Delaware on Tuesday, the Hawks will look to rebound against Penn State. The Hawks will lean on senior Zach Cole, who is off to an incredible start, winning 38-of-52 faceoffs.
  • The aforementioned, Cole, has scooped up 24 ground balls through his first two games this season.                                        
  • Senior midfielder Tucker Brown will look to build off his best game as a Hawk. Brown scored four goals in the contest.
  • Junior Matt Bohmer continued his torrid start to the season, scoring three times and assisting on three others. The Rehoboth, Del. native already has a team high in points (10), goals (6), and assists (4).
  • Through two games, goaltender Tucker Almany (1-1) has a save percentage of .531 with 26 saves.
  • The Hawks have started, at least, 2-1 in each of the past three seasons.
ABOUT PENN STATE:
  • Penn State has gotten off to a 1-2 start with a win against Lafayette and two-straight losses to Vermont and Villanova.
  • The Nittany Lions were 4-7 in 2021, the first losing season for the program since 2015. 
  • Seniors Jack Traynor and Dan Reaume have scored 17 of the team's 42 goals this season.
  • Aleric Fyock (0-2) has started in all three of Penn State's games this season between the pipes. The Bowie, Md. native currently possesses a .441 save percentage.
  • In his 12th year as head coach, Jeff Tambroni possesses a 203-103 record while at the helm in Happy Valley.
MATCHUP NOTES:
  • The Hawks and Nittany Lions have played each other a total of seven times. Since the first matchup in 2007, St. Joe's has been unable to come up with a victory. Most recently, the two team's last played in 2020 where the Hawks fell, 19-4.
