PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's welcomes nationally ranked Temple to Sweeney Field on Saturday, as the Hawks look to get their second consecutive win. SJU is coming off a come-from-behind win against Lehigh, while No. 22 Temple is fresh off a home win against Villanova. To watch this game, viewers can use ESPN+ nationally, and any international viewers can watch through the Atlantic 10.
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Senior Lauren Figura keyed the comeback for the Hawks on Wednesday, scoring six of St. Joe's 13 goals.
- Lehigh led the Hawks 7-2 at the end of the first quarter, but St. Joe's continually chipped away at the lead throughout the game. At the half, they trailed by just three goals.
- After three quarters, Saint Joseph's trailed by two goals, and they would not give up another goal after that. Four goals in the fourth quarter were enough as the Hawks won, 13-11.
- The Hawks had a very balanced scoring effort with seven different goalscorers. The only other goalscorer with more than one goal was junior Sydney Foster, who scored 2.
- Sophomore Jorden Concordia was able to make 12 saves in the victory for the Hawks.
- Figura had a lot of success last season against Temple, scoring three goals at Howarth Field.
ABOUT TEMPLE:
- Graduate student Quinn Nicolai led the Owls to their victory over the Wildcats, scoring five goals in the team's contest. The Penn State transfer scored three of the goals in just the first quarter.
- Junior Bella Mastropietro is off to a flying start on the Owls' attack. The junior from Springfield, Pa. has scored six goals in the team's first two contests.
- Graduate student Annie Carroll has started both games in net for the Owls' thus far. She has posted an impressive .630 save percentage thus far.
- Sophomore Katie Shallow has had a lot of success early in the season for the Owls' this season on the defensive side. The sophomore currently is leading the team in caused turnovers with five.
- Head coach Bonnie Rosen is entering her 16th season in charge of the program. The team got their first NCAA Tournament win since 1998 last season.
MATCHUP NOTES:
- Saint Joseph's and Temple have faced each other 16 times in the last 17 years. The Owls have gotten the better of the Hawks in these matchups, winning 11 of the 17 contests. Most recently, in 2021, Temple defeated St. Joe's 11-10 in overtime at Howarth Field.
