Men's Track Dazzles at BU Scarlett and White Invitational

BOSTON - The Saint Joseph's men's track & field team headed up to Boston University to compete in the Bruce Lehane Scarlett and White Invitational on Saturday.
 
TRACK EVENTS:
  • Kicking things off for the Hawks, senior Michael Welde clocked a 48.81 to place fifth overall in a loaded field for the 400 meters. Sophomore Eric Ford also set a colligate best in this event with a 49.43. This time is just seconds shy of the IC4A qualifying standard.
  • The duo of senior Kyle Magee and rookie Michael Brittingham continued to dazzle in the 500 meters. Magee continues to lead the A-10 in this event, clocking A 1:04.18 to take fifth overall. Brittingham recorded a 1:04.54, good for eighth overall. He  hit the IC4A qualifying standard. Brittingham currently ranks third in the A-10.
  • The 1,000 meters saw a strong performance from sophomore Gavin Campbell and senior Zach Smith. The duo went ninth and tenth, respectively, with Campbell recording a time of 2:28.76 and Smith recording a time of 2:28.77. Both qualified for the IC4A Championship.
  • The 4x400 meter relay of sophomore Ladi Bamgbose, senior Kris Edobi, Brittingham, and Magee ran away with first place overall in 3:14.53.
  • After narrowly missing the IC4A qualifying standard in the mile at the Nittany Lion Challenge, junior Matthew Coffey snagged the standard on Saturday, clocking a time of 4:13.58. The time currently ranks him 11th in the A-10.
  • Senior Ira Daly had himself a night. Daly demolished his previous PR in the 3,000 meters running an 8:11.56 to take sixth in a stacked field. This time currently ranks Daly third in the A-10 and is the fourth fastest time in this event school history. This time also satisfies the IC4A qualifying standard in this event becoming the second individual event Daly has qualified for this season.
  • Ending the night on a high note, graduate student Bobby Hastie placed second in the 5,000 meters clocking a 14:23.18. This time currently ranks Hastie third in the A-10 and satisfies the IC4A for this event. Hastie has now qualified for two individual events at this meet. Rookie Kevin Jumper made his collegiate debut in this event, clocking an impressive 14:58.30. This time currently ranks him 13th in the A-10.
FIELD EVENTS:
  • Sophomore Patrick Fehm set a new PR in the high jump leaping to a best mark of 2.01 meters to tie for third place overall.
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will be represented in two meets next week. Select Hawks will compete Friday at the Fast Track National meet hosted at Ocean Breeze Athletic Facility with another group at the Monmouth Winter Challenge on Saturday.
