LAWRENCEVILLE N.J. - The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team opened its spring season at the Rider 5- Way meet on Saturday.

TRACK EVENTS:
- In the 400m rookie Michael Brittingham placed second in a time of 48.50. Senior Kyle Magee followed, placing fourth in a time of 49.75 to set a career best in this event.
- In the 100m dash Senior Michael Welde continued to assert his dominance, coming off a strong indoor campaign. Welde claimed first in a time of 10.88.Â
- The 800m saw three Hawks finish in the top ten. Graduate student Stephen McClellan took gold in a time of 1:57.96. Junior Matthew Coffey followed placing fifth in a time of 1:59.14. Senior Zach Smith took seventh in a time of 2:00.61.
- Doubling back from the 200 Welde claimed his second gold of the day crossing the line in a time of 21.73.
- The Crimson & Gray swept the top three spots in the 3,000m. Graduate student Gerorge Steinhoff took first in a time of 8:53.10. Rookies Kevin Jumper and Dawson Baptisite finished second and third, respectively, with times of 9:04.59 and 9:10.27.
FIELD EVENTS:
- Patrick Fehm finished second overall in the high jump with a best mark of 1.99m.
- Doubling back, Fehm claimed gold in the triple jump with a best jump of 13.82m.
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will be represented in two meets next weekend. Select Hawks will travel to Princeton N.J. to compete in the Sam Howell Invitational, while the remainder of the team will remain local to compete the Big 5 Meet hosted at UPenn's Franklin Field.
