Men's Track and Field Performs Well on Day One of IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships

BOSTON – The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team displayed solid performances on the first day of the IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships. This two-day meet is hosted by Boston University at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
 
FINALS QUALIFIERS:
  • Senior Michael Welde solidified himself as the one to watch in tomorrow's 400m final. Welde won the prelims in a collegiate best time of 47.46.
  • Senior Kyle Magee grabbed a spot in tomorrow's 500m final. Magee placed seventh overall in a collegiate best time of 1:03.57.
SCORING PERFORMANCES:
  • Continuing his break out season, sophomore Patrick Fehm placed third in the high jump with a best mark of 2.01m (6' 7") to score six points for the Hawks.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Freshman Michael Brittingham narrowly missed making the 400m final. The rookie clocked a 48.43, which is good for a new collegiate best in this event.
  • In the 800m, sophomore Jayden Greene came away with a new collegiate best recording a time of 1:54.25.
  • Sophomore Gavin Campbell narrowly missed making the finals in the 1,000m. Campbell placed ninth clocking a time of 2:27.28, which is good for a new PR in this event.
  • Graduate Student Bobby Hastie closed out his indoor track career with a PR in the 5,000m. Hastie placed 11th in a time of 14.22.70. 
  • Closing out the day for the Crimson & Gray, the 4x400m relay of sophomore Ladi Bamgbose, senior Kris Edobi, Brittingham, and sophomore Eric Ford easily qualified for tomorrow's final placing fourth in a time of 3:14.17.
UP NEXT:
St. Joe's returns to action tomorrow at the BU Track and Tennis Center for the second and final day of competition for the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships. In addition to the above-mentioned finals SJU will also be represented in the triple jump and 3,000m.
