BOSTON - The 4x400 relay claimed gold Sunday afternoon at the IC4A Championships to lead Saint Joseph's men's track & field to a ninth place finish out of 42 team. The event concludes the indoor season for the Hawks.
SCORING PERFORMANCES:
- Senior Michael Welde ended his indoor track and field career with a shiny new 400m PR and the second fastest time in school history. Welde placed third overall in a time of 47.36 to score six points for the Crimson & Gray.
- In the 500m, senior Kyle Magee also ended his indoor track season on a high note. Magee placed fifth overall in a collegiate best time of 1:03.43, scoring four points for SJU.
- In the highlight performance of the day, the 4x400m relay of Welde, sophomore Eric Ford, freshman Michael Brittingham, and Magee claimed gold and the overall title in a season best time of 3:11.62. The group rounded out the scoring performances for the meet scoring 10 points for St. Joe's capping off a stellar season for the men's program.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Junior Matthew Coffey dropped four seconds off his previous best time in the 3,000m to record a time of 8:20.90.
UP NEXT:
St. Joe's will take a short break from competition for the next few weeks. They will return to action on March 26 to kick off the outdoor track and field season at the Rider 5-Way Meet.
