PHILADELPHIA -Â The Saint Joseph's men's track and field teams competed at the UPenn Big 5 meet and Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday.
Â
SAM HOWELL:
- Senior Michael Welde continued with his dazzling performances this week in the 400m. Welde won the event in a blistering 47.61. The time ranks him first in the Atlantic 10, more than satisfies the IC4A standard, and currently ranks him eight on the program's top ten performer list.
- In his hurdle season opener, senior Kyle Magee took the lead from the first hurdle and did not look back. Magee won the event clocking a time of 53.57, just shy of his PR. This time currently ranks him fourth in the Atlantic 10.
- The men's 4x400m relay saw strong performances from both relays entered. The 'A' relay of sophomore Eric Ford, freshman Michael Brittingham, Magee, and Welde claimed gold with a time 3:14.84. The 'B' relay of sophomore Ladi Bamgbose, senior Kris Edobi, graduate student Stephen McClellan, and senior Michael Szwed placed second in a time of 3:17.03.
- Sophomore Patrick Fehm place second in the high jump with a best mark of 2.01m.
- In a scintillating race, graduate student Bobby Hastie dropped 16 seconds off his previous 5,000m PR to clock at a time of 14:06.72. This was good enough for seventh overall. This time also satisfies the IC4A standard in this event.
BIG 5:
- In the long jump, rookie Josh Bacon set a collegiate best with a leap of 6.22m.
- In the 800m, rookie Josh Thaler led the Hawks in this event, clocking a collegiate best time of 1:58.80.
