Seven-Run Sixth Not Enough in Baseball's Loss to Second-Place Goldey-Beacom

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – The USciences baseball team erased a 5-0 deficit with a seven-run sixth, only to have Goldey-Beacom come back with two runs in both the seventh and eighth en route to a 13-8 win over the Devils on Wednesday afternoon at Richie Ashburn Field.

Frank Pollock began the comeback by following a one-out error with his second home run of the season.

Back-to-back singles by Evan Sinclair and Eddie Parry and back-to-back walks by Adam Estrada and Hunter Parish cut the deficit to two, before AJ Pena followed the second out with the go-ahead three-RBI single.

Joe Duffy, who began the inning with a walk, then put a stamp on the frame with an RBI double for a 7-5 advantage.

That lead lasted just two batters though as a double and home run quickly tied the score, before the Lightning plated two more in the eighth.

University of the Sciences got the tying run into scoring position in the bottom-half after Estrada led off with a double, Parish walked, and Vince Cammisa's sacrificed the two to second and third. Pena pulled the Devils within one on an RBI groundout, but Parish was stranded at second base.

Goldey-Beacom (11-4 CACC) then put the game away with a four-run ninth.

Pollock reached base four times for the second game in a row, finishing 3-for-4 with a base on balls, while Duffy had two extra-base hits as he also tripled in the third.

That triple was the sixth of his career, now tied for sixth in program history, while Pollock's walk moved him into a tie for 10th in the program's recorded single-season history (since 2005) with 21 on the year.

Parry notably scored his 28th run of the year, now tied for sixth in the program's recorded single-season annals.

Gldey-Beacom began the afternoon with three runs on four hits in the first, and the Lightning came through with a two-out double in the third for the 5-0 advantage.

Starter John McCrane settled in from there, allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings.

University of the Sciences travels to Felician for an 11 a.m. doubleheader this Friday.
