PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball program has inked Laura Ziegler to a National Letter of Intent (NLI), head coach
Cindy Griffin announced Monday. Ziegler is a 6-2 forward from Herlev, Denmark and will be eligible starting in the 2022-23 school year.
"We are excited to welcome Laura and her family to Hawk Hill!," Griffin said. "Laura is a great player who can score in a variety of ways. Her ability to handle the ball, shoot the three, post up, and pass makes her a versatile and efficient offensive player. Laura's incredible size will give us depth at the forward position, but don't be surprised to see her bringing the ball up the floor!"
Ziegler comes to Hawk Hill with an abundance of international experience, having been involved with the youth national team since she was 13-years-old. Most recently, she played on the Danish National Team for the 2021 and 2023 Eurobasket Qualifiers. She's also played for the U18, U16, and U15 National Teams. As a member of the U18 squad, she aided the team to the Nordic Championship and Division B European Championship. While she played with the U16 team, Ziegler was selected to the All-Star Team for the Nordic Championship after she averaged 11.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. As a 15-year-old, the Herlev, Denmark native received a bronze medal in the North Sea Developmental Cup.
Outside of international play, the forward spent the 2021-22 season playing for IK Eos Lund in the Svenska Basketligan Dam, the highest league in Sweden, where she averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. In 2020-21, she was selected as the Youth Player of the Year for Kvindebasketligaen after she averaged 15.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 3.0 apg, and 1.5 bpg.
