Saint Joseph's field hockey head coach
Lynn Farquhar has announced her squad's 2022 fall schedule, which features an intensely competitive non-conference slate in addition to the Hawks' annual round robin of Atlantic 10 matchups.
Â
The schedule features six teams that qualified for last year's NCAA Tournament as well as four conference champions, four matchups with perennial ACC powerhouses, and a pair of Big Ten tilts against the 2021 NCAA Tournament's first- and fourth-seeded teams.
Â
The Hawks will open the new campaign where the previous one ended as they meet Duke and Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey, on August 27 and 28; the Hawks defeated the Scarlet Knights last season before RU went on to win the Big Ten title, finish the season ranked atop the NFHCA Coaches' Poll, and enter the NCAA Tournament as the top overall seed.
Â
A trip to Drexel on September 2 leads into the Hawks' first home games of the season when they take on Penn State on September 9 and host Boston College two days later. The Hawks and Nittany Lions – who went on to earn the fourth seed in the NCAA Tournament – played a tight game in State College last season, while the Hawks have topped BC in their last two trips to Chestnut Hill.
Â
Saint Joseph's then heads south to the Old Dominion State to open conference play at VCU in a rematch of three of the past four Atlantic 10 title games on September 16 before a visit to Virginia on September 18. The Hawks then host Lock Haven and visit reigning CAA champ Delaware the following weekend.
Â
A three-game homestand follows as Richmond visits Hawk Hill on September 30 before Ivy League champion Harvard and A-10 rival UMass come to Ellen Ryan Field on October 2 and 7, respectively. The Hawks then hit the road for the run-in to the postseason, first visiting Quinnipiac on October 9 before a trip to Saint Louis on October 14.
Â
The last road trip of the season sends the Hawks to visit Davidson on October 21 before a return engagement with ACC champion North Carolina in Chapel Hill two days later. The Hawks and Tar Heels met at Ellen Ryan Field in 2021, with SJU claiming a signature win over the then three-time defending national champions.
Â
The Hawks then wrap up the regular season with a visit from crosstown rival La Salle on October 28.
Â
The Atlantic 10 Championship is set for November 3 and 5 at UMass and the NCAA Final Four will be held in Storrs, Connecticut, November 18 and 20.
