Middle Distance Squad Headlines Men's Strong Day at Moravian Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team competed at the Moravian Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Moravian University at the Rauch Fieldhouse.

NOTES
  • Michael Szwed qualified for the IC4As with his performance in the 800m.

TRACK
  • A pair of SJU runners started the morning off in the 5000m, freshman Quinn O'Dell tallying a time of 16:00.72 in the event for an 8th-place finish. Dylan Zuch finished with a time of 16:24.70.
  • Another freshman paved the way for the Hawks in the mile run, Zach Williams finishing seventh in a field of 47 with a time of 4:29.20. Dawson Baptiste finished just two tenths behind in eighth with his 4:29.39 time. Also competing in the event was Ben Klinger (4:47.73) and Omar Bedak (5:10.41).
  • A pair of Hawks opened prelims of the 60m sprint with qualifying times, Donald Adams (2nd - 7.24s) and Logan Henry (5th - 7.28s) earning spots in the finals later in the afternoon. Freshman Alex McGeary narrowly missed out on a spot, finishing in 10th just .04s off the qualifying time with his 7.37s mark.
  • The Hawks took the top two spots in the 800m, Michael Szwed leading the charge with a 1:55.45 finish. Sean Murphy made it close, following his teammate with a time of 1:55.94 to settle for second. Lleyton Winslow also finished in the top eight, his time of 2:00.92 good for seventh. Freshman Regent Walden tallied a 13th place finish in the field of 51 with a time of 2:01.73.
  • Jake Carrubba grabbed a podium finish in the men's 400m, placing third in the event with a time of 52.94s. Kevin Dennin finished with a time of 54.12s, good for 12th place.
  • Aidan Doherty collected a ninth-place finish in the 3000m, securing a time of 9:04.95.
  • In the finals of the 60m dash, freshman Logan Henry posted similar times, his 9.30s putting him fifth. Donald Adams placed seventh (7.31s), only hundredths of seconds separating fourth through seventh.
  • After his third-place finish in the 400m, Carruba led a trio of Hawks with a ninth-place finish in the 200m (23.99s). Alex McGeary finished with a time of 24.43s, while Kevin Dennin finished in 25.09s.
  • The team of Phillips, Szwed, Thaler and Johnson finished first by more than 30 seconds in the 4000m distance medley relay, finishing in a time of 10:24.94. The 4x400m relay team also dominated, winning by more than seven seconds in the event. The team consisted of Walden, Murphy, Winslow and Szwed.

FIELD
  • In the long jump, the Hawks swept the podium as Patrick Fehm led the way with a 6.97m (22'10½") mark. John Salt followed in second with a 6.49m (21'3½") jump, Logan Henry adding a third-place finish to his resume with a 6.46m (21'2½") tally.
  • Fehm also recorded a top finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 2.06m (6'9") on his first attempt.

UP NEXT
  • The Hawks return next week, competing at the Columbia Challenge. The two-day event begins on January 27 in New York.
