Coffey and Jumper Secure IC4A Qualifications in the 3k to Lead Men's Track & Field on the Final Day of Competition at the Columbia Challenge

NEW YORK- The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team concluded competition at the Columbia Challenge hosted by Columbia University at the historic Armory Track and Field Center.

TRACK EVENTS:
  • Kicking things off for the day was the 3,000m which saw senior Matt Coffey run a strong race to take second in his heat and place ninth overall in a stacked field. Coffey's time of 8:23.06 is just off his collegiate best time, but easily snagged the IC4A qualifying standard in this event. Right behind him was sophomore Kevin Jumper who clocked close to a ten second PR in this event with a time of 8:25.06 to take fourth in the same heat. Jumper also secured the IC4A qualification standard.
  • In an aggressive college 800m race graduate student Michael Szwed ran a strong 1:52.99 to place second in his heat and place fifth overall. Junior Owen Moelter placed 14th in a time of 1:52.99. Coming out of a different heat junior Jayden Greene finished 15th with a time of 1:54.33.
  • The college 400m saw sophomore Michael Brittingham clock a season best time of 49.78. Seconds behind him was graduate student Kyle Magee who crossed the line in a time of 49.83. Rookie Luke Noss also competed in this event notching a time of 50.23.
  • Graduate student Ira Daly led a group of Hawks in the mile run. Daly placed 12th in a time of 4:16.00. Junior Tommy Johnson (4:17.38), sophomore Josh Forrest (4:19.17), rookie Anthony Gargani (4:19.17), sophomore Patrick Coyle (4:20.26), and junior Noah Deckert (4:20.91) all set collegiate best times in the mile as well.
FIELD EVENTS:
  • Doubling back from the long jump yesterday junior Patrick Fehm placed seventh in the high jump with a best mark of 2.00m.
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will take a road trip up to Boston next week to compete in the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational hosted at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center. The two-day meet will kick off competition on February 3.
