Multiple PRs Smashed in Men’s Cross Country Performance at IC4A Championships

BRONX, N.Y. – With possibly the best performance of the season to this point, the Saint Joseph's men's cross country team impressed after 10 Hawks set personal bests en route to a sixth place finish at the IC4A Championships on Friday afternoon.
 
ABOUT THE EVENT
  • The event was held in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
  • 310 individuals represented 34 teams in the men's 8k.
  • The Hawks placed sixth out of 34 teams, narrowly missing out on the top spot amongst Atlantic 10 teams in the field.
  • 98 runners competed in the open race prior to the feature event, including 10 Hawks.
 
HOW THE HAWKS FINISHED
  • Taking the top spot for the Hawks, Noah Deckert set a personal best time by nearly 26 seconds in his finish, placing 34th with a time of 24:40.7.
  • Colton Johnson followed suit, setting his new best time by two seconds with a 24:48.7 finish good for 42nd.
  • Taking third in the point tally for SJU, Jay Shanahan neared a new best time but fell just seconds off his previous pace to rally for a 52nd place finish with a 24:54.1 effort.
  • Anthony Gargani became the third Hawk to set a personal best, eclipsing 25 minutes with a 10 second PR after a 24:58.2 performance.
  • Will Rau rounded out the Hawk scoring, demolishing his old record in the 8k with a 25:01.9 finish, 40 seconds quicker than his previous best.
  • Matt Coffey finished just behind Rau with a time of 25:06.2, while Tomek Przybylak (25:33.5, PR) and Aidan Groff (26:12.9) rounded out the group.
 
HOW THE HAWKS FINISHED (OPEN 8K)
  • Placing fourth in the opening event of the day, Aidan Doherty narrowly missed out on a PR with a 25:31.3 finish.
  • Dawson Baptiste placed seventh in the field, besting his previous mark by more than 30 seconds after finishing with a time of 25:44.9.
  • Ryan Cichocki also nabbed a new best time, more than 17 seconds quicker than his old mark with his 25:48.4 effort.
  • Michael Glavin made his 8k debut with a 15th place effort with a time of 25:52.2.
  • Evan McGregor (26:02.7) and Josh Forrest (26:16.8) finished behind their freshman teammate with 22nd and 33rd place efforts, respectively.
  • Tommy Johnson took more than 82 seconds off his previous best time in the 8k, finishing with a time of 26:24.8.
  • Personal bests continued to be crushed as Ian Romea took more than 45 seconds off his best with a time of 27:31.3 while Owen Hibshman knocked off a staggering three minutes off his mark to round out the Hawks with a time of 27:39.1.

  • The Hawks participate in the Haverford Season Ender on Thursday, October 26. The meet is the last before heading to Ohio to take part in the Atlantic 10 Championships.
