Johnson Leads Men’s Cross Country; Hawks Finish Eighth at A-10 Championships

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Saint Joseph's men's cross country team battled the rainy conditions on Saturday afternoon to finish eighth at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
 
ABOUT THE EVENT:
  • The 8k event was held at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course, hosted by Dayton.
  • All 15 teams in the Atlantic 10 were featured, with 141 runners competing for A-10 honors.
  • The Hawks finished eighth on the morning. St. Joe's entered the 3k mark with a narrow 5th place spot before a surge from teams in the final stretch saw the Hawks fall to eighth.
  • Loyola Chicago took home the championship, with three of the first four finishers on the morning, the top five scorers finishing in the top 10.
 
HOW THE HAWKS FINISHED:
  • Colton Johnson finished with top Hawk honors, taking a 35th place time of 24:55.48. The time falls seven seconds shy of his PR set in his last meet at the IC4A Championships.
  • Only 1.4 seconds behind his teammate, Matt Coffey followed shortly after Johnson with a 37th place finish. His time of 24:57.13 was the first time this season finishing under the 25-minute mark.
  • Noah Deckert secured a 42nd place finish for the Crimson and Gray, clocked in with a 25:04.78 time.
  • Jay Shanahan and Aidan Groff rounded out the scoring times for St. Joe's, finishing with marks of 25:14.09 and 25:19.67, respectively, for 51st and 55th place.
  • Aidan Doherty set more than a six second personal best on the morning, putting in a new best time of 25:23.59.
  • Anthony Gargani finished with a tine of 25:35.04, while teammate Tomek Przybylak posted a time of 25:39.50 to wrap up his first year with the Crimson and Gray.
  • Will Rau clocked in with a time of 25:51.86, while Ryan Cichocki got his first taste of A-10s, the rookie finishing with a time of 26:06.88.
 
UP NEXT:
A select group of Hawks will hope to take part in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, set for November 10.
