Saint Joseph's starts its Philadelphia Big 5 matchup on Tuesday evening, taking on Penn in a 6 p.m. matchup at the Palestra. The contest is streaming on ESPN+.

• Saint Joseph's is 42-5 all-time against Penn, currently on a two-game win streak.
• Four of the wins from Penn in this series have come in the last decade.
• The Hawks won 29-straight games to start the season, and hold a 25-2 record all-time on the road against their Philly rival.

MILESTONE COMPLETED
Needing only nine points to reach 1,000 in her career, Chloe Welch cruised past the benchmark in a 25-point outing over Yale on Saturday. The Colorado native scored 984 points in five seasons at Davidson, joining Bridget Monaghan in the 1,000 point club. Talya Brugler (866) and Mackenzie Smith (725) are both on pace to reach the mark before the end of the season.

THE OPPONENT
Penn looks to replace one of the best in the Ivy League from a year ago, Kayla Padilla graduating last season before playing at USC to obtain her graduate degree. Padilla led the conference in points with 17.7 per game, becoming the all-time program record holder in three-point field goals. Padilla was the third-fastest in Penn history to reach 1,000 career points.
The Quakers are by no means void of talent, showed in the season-opening dismantling against Marist on Saturday. Stina Almqvist looks to make a jump after averaging just 3.4 points a year ago, dropping 24 points in her season-opener. Jordan Obi, who averaged 12.6 points and 7.6 rebounds a year ago, also proved ready to fill the Padilla void with 10 points, seven assists and six steals against the Red Foxes. Lizzy Groetsch also added 18 points in the win after scoring just 12 points in the entirety of the 2022-23 season.

DEFENSE WINS GAMES
The Hawks have held their opponents to under 35% from the field in each of their opening two games, a combined 38-124 (.306) from the field. It is the eighth time since the 2022-23 season that St. Joe's has limited opponents to under 35%. SJU has had Yale's number over the last two seasons, holding the Bulldogs to 31% from the field a year ago before allowing just 27.8% from the floor in Saturday's win.

2-0
For the second consecutive season, the Hawks have started off 2-0 on the year after the wins over Rider and Yale. The road trip against the Bulldog was the first time since the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons that the Hawks won back-to-back road openers.

HAWKS PICKED TO FINISH SECOND IN A-10
Saint Joseph's has been picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10's preseason poll that was chosen by a panel of the A-10's head coaches. The Hawks earned their highest picked finish since 2013-14; the team that made the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

ADDED TWO ON SIGNING DAY
The Hawks announced two additions to their roster for the 2024-25 season, as Rhian Stokes and Meja Jägerskog signed NLIs on November 9.
Stokes, a senior from Ewing, New Jersey, is already a 1,000 point scorer in her high school career. Stokes is a two-time Colonial Valley Conference Player of the Year while being named to the Second and Third Team All-State. Stokes helped lead her team to NJSIAA Group 3 State Championship in 2022-23, scoring 17 points, grabbing seven rebounds and four steals in the 41-38 championship win. Stokes also helped her team to a Central Jersey Group 3 Sectional Championship and a Mercer County Tournament Championship in her junior year.
Jägerskog attended RIG Luleå on her return to Sweden after a brief cameo in the United States as a freshman at Chatham High School. Back in Sweden, Jägerskog has represented her country at the youth level. She played for the Sweden U18 team for the first time in 2023 after a successful stint in 2022 playing for her country in the U17 3v3 level. This past summer, Jägerskog returned to the States to play club basketball, working on her game with NYC New Heights.
