The Hawks are set for a quick road trip, heading to take on Boston University in a midweek matchup on Tuesday evening.
• Saint Joseph's is 7-1 all-time against the Terriers, the only loss coming in the series opener on the road in the 1980-81 season.
• Since then, the Hawks have ripped off seven-straight, including six wins under head coach
Cindy Griffin.
• Last year, the Hawks just narrowly defeated the Terriers in a 65-61 thriller inside Hagan Arena.
PLAYING WITH THE LEAD
St. Joe's has held the lead for at least 32 minutes in all six games, totaling a time of 264:50 holding a lead over the first 285 minutes of the season. The Crimson and Gray have held an advantage for 92.80% of the season, just 3.34% of the time with a deficit. The largest lead an opponent has held over the Hawks was just three points. In four games this season, there have been one or fewer lead changes in a game.
KEEPING IT CLEAN
St. Joe's is one of the cleanest in the country over the course of the first seven games. The Hawks have averaged just 11.9 fouls per game, ranking them third. Only Dartmouth (9.2) and Mississippi State (11.0) give away fewer fouls per game.
MILESTONE WATCH
Talya Brugler has her eyes set on becoming the 29th Hawk in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark in her career, sitting just 56 points shy (944) of eclipsing the mark. If the pace continues,
Mackenzie Smith (780) could also surpass the milestone before the end of the season.
THE OPPONENT
The Terriers enter as an aggressive team, the dividends paying off as one of the best in the Patriot League in blocks per game (4.3). BU also knows how to play within the aggression, only conceding 14.4 fouls per game, ranking 44th in the country. The Terriers also boast the best three-point percentage in their conference, knocking down 34.7% of attempts from range. The Boston University defense has also shown to be stingy, allowing just a 36.3% field goal percentage from opponents.
Caitlin Weimar is the name to watch on both ends of the floor for the Terriers. Weimar ranks 11th in the country with four double-doubles. The forward also ranks first in her conference in free throws (35), free throw attempts (46), while being one of the most dominant players in the country on the glass with 10.3 rebounds per game (13th in NCAA).
Alex Giannaros also adds double-figures to the mix with 12.9 points per game. Giannaros knocks down 35.6% of her attempts from distance, averaging more than two makes per game.
SWEDISH SHARPSHOOTER
Julia Nyström enters the matchup with Boston University with a 10-16 (.625) clip from beyond the arc, moving her to 60-151 on her career. Nyström ranks second in program history in three-point percentage amongst players with at least 150 attempts, knocking down a 39.7% clip from behind the arc.
DEFENSIVE PROWESS
The Hawks have held four of their opponents to under 35% from the field, North Florida becoming the first opponent to eclipse 40% from field goals by an opponent. St. Joe's sits 43rd in the NCAA in field goal defense, allowing opponents to just 35.1% from the field.
The win against Temple is the 10th time since the start of the 2022-23 season that St. Joe's has limited opponents to under 35%.
The 196 points allowed after four games was the fewest under the
Cindy Griffin era, and the third-fewest all-time in program history (1973-74, 1993-94).
