Men’s Track and Field Produce Well-Balanced Showing At Fastrack National

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team produced strong results in all phases of the squad on Saturday, highlighted by a podium sweep in the 800m for the Hawks.
 
TRACK RESULTS
  • Two Hawks opened up the meet with a top five finish in the men's 3000m, led by junior Matt Coffey, crossing the line for a fourth place, 8:19.60 time to set a new PR. Colton Johnson followed just behind his teammate for fifth, finishing in 8:22.31 to shave three seconds off his previous best time. Anthony Gargani finished ninth in his first race in the event, the freshman securing a time of 8:29.96. Josh Forrest also put in a time of 8:38.62 in his 3000m debut, placing 12th in the field of 68 runners.
  • Quinn O'Dell finished with a time of 15:46.15 in the 5000m to continue his rookie season, cutting 15 seconds off his previous best time in the event.
  • Eight runners competed for the Hawks in the 79-person field in the mile run, led by Tommy Johnson. The junior placed sixth with a new personal best time of 4:15.12. Noah Deckert finished with a new PR of 4:15.96 to place eighth. Dawson Baptiste (4:25.82 – personal-best) and Aidan Doherty (4:26.05) finished within three tenths of each other for a top half finish in the field.
  • Kyle Magee placed eighth to lead the Crimson and Gray in the 400m, crossing the line in 49.82s. Only 0.27s separated him from Luke Noss, who finished in 10th with his new best time of 50.09s. Freshman James Mackey Jr. finished with a time of 50.67s, while Jake Carrubba produced a result of 51.04s - .01s off of his best mark.
  • The trio of Maris Tranquille, Gavin Campbell and Graham Phillips swept the podium in the 800m run, a highlight of the event for the Crimson and Gray. Tranquille's first place time of 1:53.43 was .25s ahead of Campbell's time, while Phillips crossed the line 1:55.11. Joshua Thaler also finished in the top eight with a time of 1:55.85, while freshman Regent Walden posted a time of 1:57.31. Lleyton Winslow also produced a strong time of 1:57.79.
  • Tyhir Jones placed seventh for the Hawks in the 200m, setting a time of 22.05s. His time was just seven tenths off the leading pace.
  • The Saint Joseph's 4x400m team consisting of Tyhir Jones, Kyle Magee, Luke Noss and Jayden Greene were a second from first place, finishing with a time of 3:14.92 to place second in the relay.
 
FIELD RESULTS
  • A pair of freshmen in Logan Henry and Cameron Campbell-Miller took ninth and 11th, respectively, in the long jump. Henry's opening leap of 6.71m proved his best, falling .08m shy of a qualifying mark of three more jumps. Campbell-Miller produced his best effort on his second leap, a distance of 6.58m.
  • Patrick Fehm produced a joint-best result in the men's high jump, clearing the bar at 2.06m. One of just two competitors to do so, Fehm cleared the mark on his second jump, finishing behind James Bell of Coppin State who made the mark on his first opportunity.

  • The Hawks are back in action next Sunday, taking part in the Princeton Invitational on February 19.
