Men Track and Field Produces Multiple Top Program Marks at BU Scarlet and White Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team had a successful weekend competing at the historic BU Track and Tennis Center with a strong showing across all event groups. 

TRACK EVENTS:  
  • In the 500m, graduate student Kyle Magee easily nabbed the IC4A qualification in this event by clocking a time of 1:04.68, which was good for fifth overall. Rookie Luke Noss was right behind him laying down a solid 1:05.12 for sixth to also grab the first IC4A qualifier of his career.
  • In the mile run, senior Matt Coffey lowered his PR by running a time of 4:11.31. Sophomore Josh Forrest was also right off his collegiate best time clocking a solid 4:20.61.
  • Tyhir Jones returned to form in the 400m dash, crossing the line in a time of 48.68. This time currently ranks him fourth overall in the Atlantic 10.
  • In an electrifying race, junior Jayden Greene became the third fastest 800m runner in St. Joe's history with his time of 1:51.81. Greene now ranks sixth overall in the Atlantic 10 in this event. Graduate student Michael Szwed also had a strong showing with his time of 1:52.73. Joining them in this race was Owen Moelter (1:54.24), Sean Murphy (1:54.51), and Joshua Thaler (1:56.60).
  • The 1,000m also rewrote the St. Joe's all-time lists. Junior Gavin Campbell crossed the line in a blistering 2:25.64 which now ranks him fourth all-time in this event. Campbell now ranks second in the A-10 with this time as well. Rookie Maris Tranquille (2:28.40) and sophomore Graham Phillips (2:28.98) both grabbed the IC4A standard in this event to cap off a strong Hawk showing.
  • In the 3,000m, graduate student Ira Daly put down a solid 8:11.40 to place sixth overall. In a dramatic come-from-behind fashion, junior Noah Deckert knocked close to ten seconds off his 3,000m PR to win his heat in a time of 8:23.84. Right behind him was Colton Johnson, who clocked an 8:25.64. All three athletes secured the IC4A qualification standard in this event. Narrowly missing the standard was sophomore Patrick Coyle, who clocked a lifetime best of 8:28.29.
  • In the 5,000m, sophomore Jay Shanahan placed third with a time of 14:38.83. Shanhan was the top collegiate in this race and also easily earned the IC4A standard in this event. Sophomore Kevin Jumper placed ninth overall in a time of 14:57.37 to narrowly miss the IC4A standard by two seconds. 
  • The Hawks placed fourth in the men's 4x400m relay, only finishing three seconds behind the leaders. The team of Jones, Magee, Noss and Szwed finished with a time of 3:15.67, almost eclipsing the 3:12.70 mark by South Florida. The second team of Mackey, Greene, Moelter and Carrubba placed seventh with a time of 3:20.69.

FIELD EVENTS: 
  • In the high jump junior Patrick Fehm placed second overall with a best jump of 2.05m. 

UP NEXT: 
The Hawks return to Staten Island for the second time this season to compete at the Fastrack National hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Facility. Competition is slated to begin on Friday February 10.
