Men's Track and Field Grabs a Slew of IC4A Qualifications Across All Event Groups at the Widener Invitational.

CHESTER, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team performed well across the two-day Widener Invitational. The Crimson and Gray secured multiple IC4A qualifiers, personal bests, and top ten showings across all event groups.
 
FRIDAY TRACK EVENTS
  • Rookie Anthony Gargani had an impressive showing in his 5,000m distance, dipping well under the IC4A qualification standard for this event with a time of 14:41.67 to place fourth overall. Also dipping under the 15-minute barrier was sophomore Kevin Jumper, who placed ninth overall in a time of 14:51.48. Patrick Coyle also set a new collegiate-best time in this race, crossing the line in 15:01.70.
  • Dylan Zuch closed the evening out on a high note with a personal-best of a minute and a half in the 10,000m. Zuch was the third collegiate overall with a time of 33:28.83.
SATURDAY TRACK EVENTS
  • Junior Vincent Twomey was ninth in the 1,500m in a time of 3:57.49. Tommy Johnson was 11th in a time of 3:58.54.
  • Michael Brittingham rewrote the SJU top ten all-time list in the 400m, dropping a massive personal-best time of 47.09s. Brittingham now sits at fourth on the SJU all-time list and ranks second overall on the season in the conference. Also having strong showings were Jayden Greene (3rd, 48.52s), Luke Noss (4th, 48.72s), and Darren Cammauf (7th, 48.90s). All these men also secured the IC4A qualification standard in this event.
  • The Crimson and Gray swept the top two spots in the 800m with sophomore Joshua Thaler winning the event in a huge personal-best time of 1:51.80 to secure his first IC4A qualification standard. Maris Tranquille was second in a personal best time 1:52.30 to nab the IC4A qualification standard as well. Gavin Campbell dipped under the 1:53 mark as with his time of 1:52.92 to become the third Hawk in this race to qualify for IC4A in this event today.
  • Graduate student Kyle Magee remains undefeated in the 400m hurdles, winning his third-straight race in a time of 53.39s.
  • Magee was also the top Hawk in the 200m, notching a collegiate-best time of 22.40s. Cammauf and Noss also set collegiate-best times in the 200m with times off 22.47s and 22.53s, respectively.
  • In his steeplechase debut, Noah Deckert placed second in a time of 9:44.35. Ryne Beni (10:07.73), Aidan Doherty (10:11.18), and Dawson Baptiste (10:13.17) went on to sweep the eighth, ninth, and tenth, places in this race.
UP NEXT
The Hawks have a busy week of competition with two meets on the calendar. Select Hawks will be competing in the Penn Relays which will run from Thursday April 27th through Saturday April 29th.  The rest of the team will compete at the Lehigh Covert Classic on Saturday April 29th.
