8/7/2023 11:00:00 AM

Matt Klampert has been named an assistant coach for the Saint Joseph's softball program, head coach Gina McCool announced on Monday.

Klampert comes to Hawk Hill after spending the previous season as an assistant coach at Penn. While with the Quakers, Klampert helped pitcher and utility player Bella Fiorentino earn All-Ivy League honors, and saw Brianna Brown rank second in the league in stolen bases, and Sarah Schneider tie for fifth in doubles and seventh in home runs.

"I am thrilled to welcome Matt Klampert to Hawk Hill. Matt's passion for the game of softball is unmatched. He has a proven championship mindset and work ethic to match," said McCool. "A seasoned recruiter and natural connector, I have no doubt that Matt will make an immediate impact on our program."

"I would like to thank Coach McCool for the opportunity to come to Hawk Hill. It is evident that there is a strong passion in this program, and I am looking forward to joining it," said Klampert. "I am excited to get to work and begin our journey through the 2023-2024 season!"

Prior to joining Penn, Klampert served as an assistant coach at Fordham, helping the Rams earn a pair of A-10 titles. On the field at Fordham, Klampert specialized in working on defensive techniques with the outfielders, while aiding with hitters on the offensive side. Off the field, Klampert prepared scouting reports, served as transportation coordinator, oversaw equipment and apparel needs, and served as a liaison with numerous offices within the athletic department.

From 2016-18, Klampert was part of the staff at Iona, helping the Gaels capture the 2017 MAAC regular-season title and a postseason appearance in the National Invitational Softball Championship. Over three seasons, Klampert helped Iona qualify for a pair of MAAC postseason tournaments, while 10 Gaels earned All-MAAC honors, including 2017 MAAC Pitcher of the Year Alana Evans and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Tori Danner.

A 2014 graduate of St. John's with a bachelor's degree in sport management with a minor in business administration, Klampert served as a student manager with the Red Storm as an undergrad, and moved into a volunteer assistant coach with the team for the 2014-15 season and helped St. John's capture the Big East championship.

Klampert joins McCool's staff that includes assistant coach Carli Cutler, who is in her second year as the Hawks' pitching coach.
