Men’s Cross Country Finishes Second at Paddy Doyle Meet of Champions

VAN CORTLANDT PARK, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's men's cross country team continued the strong start to the season, finishing second on Friday morning at the Paddy Doyle Meet of Champions.
 
ABOUT THE EVENT
  • Hosted by Iona, the Hawks ran the 5M at the Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
  • St. Joe's finished second on the day in an six-team field as Army West Point took home the top spot.
  • 84 runners competed in the event.
 
HOW THE HAWKS FINISHED
  • Colton Johnson secured the top spot for the Hawks with a fourth-place finish, the junior crossing with a time of 25:22.1.
  • In seventh, Noah Decekert set a new PR of 25:42.0 to cut his previous best time by 27 seconds.
  • Only two seconds spilt Anthony Gargani (26:02.6) and Matt Coffey (26:04.2) for 16th and 17th. Gargani produced his best time in the 5M for the Crimson and Gray.
  • Will Rau also set a PR when the sophomore finished 20th with a time of 26:08.7.
  • Vincent Twomey made his debut in the five mile event, finishing 23rd with a 26:12.7 finish.
  • Patrick Coyle and Dawson Baptiste also finished in the top half of the field in their 5 mile debuts with times of 26:27.8 and 26:32.8.
  • Evan McGregor finished just behind Baptiste, under two seconds off his teammate with a 26:34.6 finish. Tomek Przybylak also joined the pack with a 26:36.3 time in his event debut.
  • Rookies Ryan Cichocki and Michael Glavin finished with times of 26:56.2 and 26:58.2 in their second race of their careers, while Josh Forrest followed just behind in 27:05.8 in his first 5M as a Hawk.
  • Ian Romea also made his second appearance in as many meets to start his career, the freshman finishing with a 28:12.4 time.
 
UP NEXT
The Hawks return to the course on Saturday, September 30 to take part in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University.
