Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team wrapped up its weekend in the Carolinas on Sunday, falling at USC Upstate, 21-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• USC Upstate (4-3) scored the game's first run on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first inning, but the Hawks would equalize in the second.Â
Jakob Reed led off the frame with a double and came around to score on a two-out double by
Max Hitman.
Â
• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the hosts would score six runs in the bottom of the second to open up a 7-1 lead.
Â
• Saint Joseph's (2-2) got one back in the third on a first-pitch leadoff home run by
Ryan Weingartner, but the Spartans exploded for nine runs in the fourth to expand the lead to 16-2. Upstate added two more in the sixth.

Conlan Wall and Weingartner hit consecutive singles with two down in the seventh before a passed ball brought Wall home to make it 18-3.

• The Spartans extended their advantage in the bottom of the inning, pushing two more across to make it a 20-3 game.

Justin Igoe added a two-run home run for the Hawks in the eighth before a solo home run in the bottom of the inning closed out the scoring.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Cooper Ellingworth tossed four innings of relief, allowing an unearned run on three hits, to get the win, while
Domenic Picone took the loss after ceding seven runs in two innings.

• Weingartner homered for the second day in a row and led the Hawks with a pair of hits. Igoe drove in a pair of runs on the day while
Luke Zimmerman reached base three times.

Richie Kerstetter made his collegiate debut for the Hawks after missing his freshman season due to injury.
