MERION STATION, Pa. – Five Hawks reached the quarterfinals of their respective singles flights as the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team kicked off the Saint Joseph's Invitational at the SJU Tennis Complex on Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Santiago Valle rolled in his opening match, dispatching Will Burridge from Drexel at love in the Hawk Hill flight.
 
• In the Crimson flight, Othman Bezzaz defeated Severin Risan of NJIT and Davi Carlos topped Temple's Alberto Blumenschein by identical 6-2, 6-1 scores.
 
• Jakob Gaudreau Barnes was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Ethan Carr of Villanova in the Gray flight, while Hector Fullone claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Alejandro Rodriguez of Haverford in the Black flight.
 
• Carlos and Valle were winners in doubles play as well, teaming up for a 6-3 win over Villanova's Carr and Kush Anand in the Crimson flight.
