Women’s Basketball Set to Host Hawk Classic

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team is set to host the 30th annual Hawk Classic presented by Jersey Mike's, a two-day tournament beginning Saturday, Dec. 20, inside Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena. Joining the Hawks in the field are Akron, Delaware and Le Moyne.

The winners of Day 1 will meet on the second day of the tournament. Le Moyne and Saint Joseph's are locked into their respective time slots on Sunday, with Day 1 results determining which game serves as the consolation and which is the championship.
 
 
OPENING TIP
Saint Joseph's looks to end a two-game losing streak heading into the 30th edition of the Hawk Classic, presented by Jersey Mike's. Akron, Delaware and Le Moyne round out the field for the two-day tournament inside Hagan Arena.
 
Rhian Stokes scored 23 points for the second straight game in the Big 5 Classic championship loss to Villanova, marking a new career high. She also set career highs with six assists and four 3-pointers made. Stokes became just the 19th player in the country, and the second in the Atlantic 10, to record at least 23 points, six assists and four 3-pointers in a game.
 
Gabby Casey returned to the lineup after missing the Rhode Island game due to illness and finished with 19 points, her eighth double-figure scoring performance of the season. Casey added eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
 
 
HOMECOMING
It will be a Hawk Hill homecoming at this year's Hawk Classic. Ryan Gensler '09, head coach at Akron, returns to his alma mater, where he previously served as a student manager under head coach Cindy Griffin. Emma Boslet '24, '25 also returns to Hawk Hill in her first season as an assistant coach at Le Moyne following a five-year playing career at Saint Joseph's.
 
 
SHARING IS CARING
The Hawks rank third nationally with a 72.6 percent assist rate, assisting on 154 of their 212 made field goals through the opening nine games. Only Marquette (73.8%) and Northwestern (73.0%) rank higher.
 
Saint Joseph's also ranks in the top 40 nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.22) and assists per game (17.1), leading the Atlantic 10 in both categories.
 
 
ABOUT ST. JOE'S
The Hawks replace four players from last year's starting lineup. Only Gabby Casey (33) entered the season having started seven or more games last year. Aleah Snead (6), Rhian Stokes (4) and Kaylie Griffin (1) also made starts in 2024-25.
 
Saint Joseph's has 14 players on the 2025-26 roster, representing four states and four countries excluding the United States. Emirson Devenie (Australia) is the first Hawk to represent her countries, while Meja Jägerskog (Sweden) and Olivia Lutterodt (Denmark) are each the second player to join the program from their respective countries.
 
Eight newcomers joined the Hawks over the offseason, four coming by way of the transfer portal while Coach Griffin and company signed four freshmen to the team. Jill Jekot (Penn State), Cecilia Kay (American) and Faith Stinson (IU Indy) transferred in to Hawk Hill, while Lutterodt, Kaylinn Bethea, Rian Dotsey and Emily Knouse will all make their debut in 2025-26.
