WASHINGTON, D.C. - Marla Freiwald of the Saint Joseph's softball team has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the opening week of the season as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. 

Freiwald went 1-0 with a save and 0.58 ERA in her first collegiate action at the Heart of Georgia Classic. In her collegiate debut against Austin Peay on Friday, she tossed the final three innings of the game scoreless to earn the save. After surrendering one earned run in four innings across two games on Saturday, she earned her first college start on Sunday and scattered four hits along five shutout innings to pick up the win. In 12.0 innings of work overall, she allowed just 11 baserunners for a 0.92 WHIP. 

Saint Joseph's does not play again until February 21 when it faces Radford in a doubleheader at the Liberty Softball Classic. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
