Baseball Rallies Late for 10-6 Win at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After an early lead was clawed back by the hosts, the Saint Joseph's baseball team rallied back for a 10-6 win over Wofford at Russell C. King Field on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Saint Joseph's (3-7) wasted no time, scoring in the top of the first on an RBI single by Jason Janesko that plated Alex Kelsey.
  • The Hawks extended the lead in the second as Carson Applegate reached on an error, advanced to third on a single by Richard Beggy, and scored on a wild pitch.  Tim Dickinson later singled Beggy home to make it a 3-0 game.
  • Kelsey and Janesko then started off the third with consecutive singles, leaving runners on the corners for Blake Primrose, whose sacrifice fly scored Kelsey to make it 4-0.
  • Wofford (8-3) got on the board in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly, but the Hawks tacked on another in the fourth on a solo home run by Joey Gale to make it 5-1.
  • The Terriers turned the game on its head in the bottom of the seventh on a wild sequence; with the bases loaded, a fielder's choice and two errors led to four runs scoring and the hosts taking a 6-5 lead.
  • Singles by Joey Pagano and Augie Maslo and a walk by Beggy loaded the bases for Gale, who singled home a pair to restore the Hawks' lead.
  • Janesko led off the ninth and reached on an error; after a single by Primrose, Applegate notched a single of his own to score Janesko and double the lead. Beggy followed with a two-run triple to double the advantage once again to 10-6.
  • Andrew Gaines then sent the Terriers down in order in the bottom of the ninth to finish off the win.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gaines allowed one hit and struck out three in two and two-thirds innings of shutout relief to earn the win; Hiram Lewis allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning to take the loss.
  • Luke Parise started for the Hawks, allowing just a run on four hits while fanning four in five innings.
  • Gale notched three hits and drove in three runs, while Kelsey, Applegate, and Beggy scored two apiece. Beggy added two RBI as well.
