KANSAS CITY, Mo. –
Derek Simpson and
Steve Donahue were honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as Division I All-District Teams were announced on Tuesday.
Simpson was named to NABC Mid-Atlantic District Second Team. He is one of four players from the Atlantic 10 to be recognized as All-Mid Atlantic. Previously he had been named First Team All-Conference. He is one of seven players nationally to average 13.0 PPG, 5.0 RPG and 5.0 APG this season. His 174 assists have moved him into a tie for eighth on the SJU single season list.
Donahue earned Co-Coach of the Year honors, along with Shaheen Holloway from Seton Hall and James Jones from Yale. He took over as head coach of the Hawks less than seven weeks prior to the opening game of the season and guided Saint Joseph's to 22 wins thusfar. After an 0-2 start in A-10 play, SJU ran off 13 wins in 16 games and a semifinal finish in the A-10 Championship.
The Hawks see their season continue in the National Invitation Tournament when they travel to Colorado State on Wednesday, March 18. Tipoff from Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo. Is scheduled for 11:00 p.m. EDT with the game airing on ESPNU.
