DALLAS – Saint Joseph's senior righthander Andrew Gaines was named to the midseason watch list for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award this week.

The award, given out by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, is bestowed upon the nation's top relief pitcher in Division I.  A native of Marlton, New Jersey, Gaines has notched seven saves this season in 16 appearances.  He has a 3-1 record with a 2.45 earned run average across 22 innings; he has struck out 35 batters, good for a 14.32 strikeouts-per-nine innings ratio, while holding hitters to a .153 batting average on the season.
 
Gaines and the Hawks head across town to take on La Salle on Friday.  The teams will play a doubleheader at Hank DeVincent Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
