The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team overcame a 18-9 shot differential to down Duquesne 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Rooney Field.
The Dukes had the first scoring opportunity of the game as Nicole Nanchoff's shot sailed past Saint Joseph's junior goalkeeper Nicole DiEnna only to hit the post.
The Hawks got an opportunity in the 41st minute off a corner kick. Senior Cristin Harris took a corner from teammate Jess Daugherty and headed it past Duquesne's Rachel Gecik for Harris' first goal of her career.
Duquesne had two chances to tie in the second half, but shots by Katie Schwager and Erica Carey hit the post and crossbar, respectively.
Duquesne out shot the Hawks 18-9, holding a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
DiEnna made six saves in net for Saint Joseph's to earn the shutout victory. Gecik recorded the loss, allowing one goal on two shots.
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 6-10-1 overall and 4-4-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Duquesne falls to 8-9-1 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play.
The Hawks return to action Friday, October 29 when they host Richmond at 7 p.m.
