Box Score
PHILADELPHIA -
Sophomore Nicole Antonini scored three times and Saint Joseph's (10-7) netted three goals in each half to cruise past Georgetown (3-14) in field hockey action on Finnesey Field. Senior Katelee Zapolski, junior Hilary Moody and sophomore Maryann Reis added tallies for SJU.
Despite the final score, the Hawks appeared out of sync early in the game and didn't get on to the scoreboard until Moody converted a penalty corner with 1:40 to play in the opening half. Antonini and senior Shannon Scott picked up the assists.
After tallying the initial goal the flood gates opened, as Antonini scored three times over a 10 minute strech. She notched her first goal off a pass from Maureen Casserly with 6:01 left before intermission and then knocked home her second with 31 second remaining in the opening frame. She added her third of the game 2:52 into to the second half off a pass from sophomore Lauren Luft to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
SJU closed out the scoring with goals by Reis and Zapolski. Reis scored off a cross from Zapolski 13:37 into half number two. Zapolski then wrapped it up by tallying with 14:52 to play.
The Hawks dominated the game and held commanding 25-2 and 11-1 advantages in shots and corners respectively.
GU goalkeeper Abby WIner made eight saves before being replaced by Caitlyn Faller, who recorded two saves. SJU freshman net minder Rebecca Cunfer recorded just one save in earning her fifth shutout of the season.
With the three goals, Antonini now has 15 goals, 12 assists and 42 points for the season. The 15 tallies and 42 points each rank third on SJU's single season list. Her 12 helpers are one shy of the Hawk record for a season. Cunfer's five shutouts are the most for an SJU freshman since Caroline Friel posted eight in 1985.
SJU closes out the regular season by hosting Temple on Saturday at noon. A win assures the Hawks of a fourth straight trip to the postseason.
