CHARLOTTSVILLE, VA (4/13/02)- Placing second in the long jump, junior
Maisha Tyler propelled the Saint Joseph's women's track team to an eighth place finish at the University of Virginia Invitational this past weekend. SJU finished eighth out of 16 teams.
The Hawks bested teams including James Madison, Lafayette, and Virginia Tech. Host Virginia won the weekend's event followed by Rutgers , Georgetown, Monmouth and Howard.
Tyler finished in second place in the long jump with a leap of 19'01 1/4", qualifying her for the ECAC Championships held in May. Senior
Brooke Gilliford finished 6th in the 100 meter event with a time of 12.52. In the 400,
Mary Korfmacher led the way with a third place finish (57.75) while
Yasmin Copeland set a personal record of 60.24.
Amy Manwaring placed ninth in the 3000 with a time of 10:19.00, while newcomer
Krista Ramirez set a school record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.72,
Tyler also anchored the school record breaking 4x100 relay team with a time fo 48.65 seconds. That record was set a week ago by the same runners including Brooke Gilliford,
Colleen Ladden and Mary Korfmacher.
The Hawks next compete on Saturday, April 20, when they travel to Lafayette.
