PHILADELPHIA, PA (3/24/02) - In the Hawks opening outdoor meet, SJU received solid performances from a seasoned senior class. Denise Fergus and Brooke Gilliford earned first place crowns while Mary Korfmacher claimed the silver. Fergus led the pack of 3000 meter competitors with a time of 10:34.86 while Gilliford won the 100 meter with a time of 12.66 seconds. Korfmacher placed second (57.64) in the 400 meter besting a 21-runner field. Gilliford also ran the 200 meter in a time of 25.98 seconds, good for second place. Junior Maisha Tyler also fared well for the Hawks winning the long jump with a leap of 17'07.5". Other top finishers included a third, fourth and fifth place finish from Karen Weber, Colleen Flanagan and Amy Manwaring in the the 3000 meter race. The 4x100 relay team also claimed first with a time of 49.20 seconds.
