ANDREANI AWARDED NCAA POST GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

PHILADELPHIA (06/30/02) - Saint Joseph's University softball standout Teresa Andreani has been awarded a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship by the NCAA. The Hawk catcher, a three-time all-conference honoree, was one of 58 spring sport student athletes, 29 male, 29 female, to be awarded the scholarship. She had previously been named the recipient of an Atlantic 10 Conference postgraduate scholarship. A two time Verizon Academic All-American. Andreani, a native of Matawan, NJ (Toms River North), capped her stellar career at Saint Joseph's by being named Atlantic 10 All-Conference for the third straight season. In her final season at SJU, Andreani tied for the team lead in hits with 50 while placing second in doubles (12) and third in batting (.316). The lone SJU player on the 2002 A-10 all-conference team, the Hawk captain helped lead her team to a 32-17 overall record and a third trip to the A-10 Tournament in her four seasons at the school. A two-time team MVP, Andreani compiled 193 hits for her four-year career, ranking third on the school's all-time hit list. Her 45 career doubles also place her third on the SJU list in that category while her 106 runs scored and 93 RBI rank fourth and fifth, respectively. The 2001 Atlantic 10 Student Athlete of the Year for Softball, Andreani earned her bachelor's degree in Chemistry, compiling a 3.79 cumulative grade point average. She has been accepted to the Ph.D. program at Rutgers University, where she will be involved in research of organic synthesis and drug design for medicinal purposes, enabling her to work on projects to help find a cure for cancer and AIDS.
