PHILADELPHIA (1/15/03) - Saint Joseph's University will host its fourth annual "Fieldtrip to the Fieldhouse," on Friday, January 17. Co-sponsored by Newspapers in Education - Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News, the event brings over 1,500 elementary school children from throughout the Delaware Valley to SJU's historic Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Held in conjunction with the Hawk women's basketball game that day against Dayton at 11:30 AM, the children in attendance are treated to quite possibly the most unique fieldtrip experience of their lives. The day features a women's college basketball matinee, cheerleaders, giveaways, a pre-game clinic and a variety of speakers who will address the importance of health, fitness and proper nutrition. The festivities will kickoff at 10:00 AM with Saint Joseph's University head women's basketball coach Cindy Griffin welcoming the crowd. Griffin will be followed by a basketball skills session hosted by the Hawk coaching staff and a presentation by the staff of the Summit Sports Training Center on health, fitness and proper nutrition. The highlight of the day will tip-off at 11:30 AM when the Hawk women take on Dayton in an exciting Atlantic 10 basketball match-up.
