Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Rhode Island and Temple have all qualified for the 2006 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship which begins on Friday, November 3rd at Crenshaw Field on the campus of the University of Richmond.
#17 Richmond enters the A-10 Championship having posted a perfect record in league play (7-0) for the fifth straight year. The host Spiders, are the Championship's top seed and will square off against fourth-seeded Temple (13-6/4-3) at 11:00 am on November 3rd. Temple received the fourth seed as a result of its 0-2 ledger versus Saint Joseph's and Rhode Island, each of which also enters the Championship at 4-3 in league play.
The other semifinal match-up features Saint Joseph's versus Rhode Island. Saint Joseph's garnered the second seed in the Championship after compiling a 4-3 league mark, including a 2-0 record against TU and URI, to go along with a 10-9 overall mark. Rhode Island, seeded third, is also 4-3 in the A-10 and finished 8-8 overall. The Rams went 1-1 versus the tied teams and are entering their first A-10 Championship since 2000. The Hawks and Rams will face-off at 2:00 pm on November 3rd.
The post-season appearance will mark the 11th time the Saint Joseph's Hawks have been to the Atlantic 10 Championship in program history.
The title game of the Atlantic 10 Championship will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 4. Admission to all games is free.
