Box Score

RICHMOND, VA - The Hawks advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship game after beating Rhode Island, 3-0 Friday afternoon. Senior Nicole Antonini and freshman Anne Schreuders combined for the goals.

Although the Hawks were able to set the tempo in the first half, keeping possession of the ball for most of the time, they were unable to find the back of the net. Saint Joseph's got of eight shots in the first 35:00 minutes but URI goalie M.J. Britt came up with four saves, keeping the game scoreless into the break.

SJU came out hungry in the second half, scoring just over two minutes into play. The Hawks were awarded a penalty corner but the ball took a bit of a hop when Senior Maureen Casserly went to make the stop. Casserly was able to quickly regain control of the ball and make a short pass to Schreuders who was still near the top of the arc and blasted it into the left side of the goal. The Rams tried to step it up but were unable to keep the ball in the offensive end. Antonini then solidified the lead, notching two more goals for the Hawks. The first came at 51:18 with senior Lauren Luft passing the ball in front of the goal where Antonini stood in the center and punched in the goal. The assist was Luft's ninth of the season and 23rd of her career. SJU's third goal of the game came at 62:12 when junior Brianne Miller made a hard cross from the left side of the goal and Antonini was able to make a lunging shot into the bottom right of the net. Antonini now has 15 goals for the season with 52 for her career.

Junior goalie Rebecca Cunfer earned her sixth shutout of the season and the 13th of her career. The shutout ranks Cunfer third on SJU's All-Time Career list and ties her own single season record set in 2004 (fourth on the SJU Single Season Leaders list).

The Hawks outshot the Rams 14-3 for the day and edged them in penalty corners 6-2.
