PHILADELPHIA - Junior Mike O'Neill scored four goals for Saint Joseph's (0-7, 0-1 MAAC), including the game-tying goal with just 4:01 left in regulation, but Provdence (1-2, 1-0 MAAC) tallied with 1:33 left in the second overtime to defeat Saint Joseph's in Metro Atlantic Lacrosse League action on Finnesey Field, 8-7.

The Hawks trailed 7-5 after the Friars scored with 5:54 left in regulation, but SJU responded with a pair of late goals to force the extra sessions. Senior Keegan Wilkinson brought the Hawks within one when he scored off a pass from O'Neill with 4:56 remaining. SJU then knotted the contest at 7-7 on O'Neill's fourth goal of the contest just 55 seconds later. Alex McColough tallied the assist on the goal which came on the extra man..

The game, which was tied at the end of each of the four quarters of regulation, proceeded through the first four minute overtime scoreless. Providence then got the opening it needed when SJU freshman Pat Williams was flagged for an unnecessary roughness call with 2:29 remaining in the second OT. PC's Mark Seyer converted the game-winner off a pass from Brendan Ryan with only four seconds remainin on the man-advantage and 1:33 remianing in the extra period.

The early porion of the game saw the lead bounce back and fourth until Providence took control scoring four straight goals to close the third and then open the fourth quarter.

PC began the scoring on a goal midway through the opening quarter, but Wilkinson scored at teh 6:45 mark to tie the score after one. SJU went on top with a goal from sophomore Steve Varga just 1:28 into quarter number two. PC, however answered with a pair to claim a 3-2 edge. O'Neill tied the game just before intermission with his first goal of the game and it was 3-3 at halftime.

O'Neill added two more tallis at the 6:38 and 3:58 marks of the third quarter to give SJU its largest lead at 5-3, but Providence tallied twice lat in the quarter and added two more early in the fourth to go on top 7-5.

The game marked the MAAC opener for both schools.
