EAST NORRITON, PA -
The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped a pair of game to Fordham Friday afternoon, falling 8-0 in the opener and 15-11 in the nightcap at East Norriton Field.
In game one, the Rams jumped out to an 8-0 lead by the fourth inning as they plated two runs in each. Sarah Klaiber got Fordham on the board with a two-run home run in the top of the first, while Gina Capardi's two-run double gave the Rams a 4-0 edge in the second. Katie Busciacco drilled a two-run homer in the third and Katie Davis put the finishing touches on with a two run single in the fourth.
On the other side, Saint Joseph's managed only five hits in the opener, as freshman outfielder Kelsey Moir accounted for two of those. Sophomore pitcher Lauren Cognigni fell to 8-12 on the season with the loss.
In game two, both teams fought back and forth, but the Rams jumped out to an early 4-0 edge in the top of the first and never relinquished that lead.
Saint Joseph's cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the first scoring two runs on throwing errors by Fordham and a RBI single off the bat of sophomore outfielder Carly Kinkler.
The Rams extended their lead to 11-4 by the fourth, but a six-run bottom-half of the inning cut the deficit to 11-10. Senior first baseman Lynn Ravert delivered the biggest blow with a three-run homer.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, Fordham would score four runs over the final three innings to hold onto the win.
With the losses, the Hawks fall to 12-31-1 on the season and 3-9 in Atlantic 10 play. Fordham improves to 30-18 overall and 9-3 in conference play.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Sunday as it hosts George Washington at noon.
