Box Score

FENTON, Mo. - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team earned a 2-1 victory over the Saint Louis Billikens on Friday afternoon at the Anheuser-Busch Center. Sophomore midfielder Anne Schreuders scored her first goal of the season on a penalty corner opportunity with just under five minutes to go in regulation. The game was the Atlantic 10 opener for both schools.

Saint Louis (2-11, 0-1 Atlantic 10) got on the board first, scoring on a penalty stroke by Kelsey Shultz at the 26:43 mark of the first. Early in the second half, the Billikens had a goal waved off that would have given them a two-goal lead.

Saint Joseph's (6-5, 1-0 Atlantic 10) equalized with just over 19 minutes left in the game. Sophomore midfielder Kellie Walter fired a long shot toward the cage, and Krista Bordogna tipped it past SLU goalkeeper Amy Wasserman to tie the score.

With five minutes to go SJU was awarded one of its 12 penalty corners in the game. Walter put the ball into play, and after a stick-stop by senior Katie Young, Schreuders' blast into the cage gave the Hawks a lead they would not relinquish.

For the game, the Hawks outshot Saint Louis 21-6 and held a 12-2 advantage in penalty corners. Wasserman recorded 14 saves for SLU.

Saint Joseph's returns for a three-game homestand beginning Sunday morning. The Hawks will face off with the Richmond Spiders at 11:00 a.m.
