Men's Lacrosse Falls to Siena, 13-7

Loudonville, NY - Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse suffered another loss on Saturday, falling, 13-7, to league rival Siena. The loss moves the Hawks to 4-10 on the season and 4-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while the Saints improve to 9-4 overall and 6-0 in conference play. Steve O'Brien and Laurent Dionot lead the SJU offense, each scoring two goals for the day.

The Hawks were held scoreless though the first quarter, allowing the Saints to jump out to a 6-0 lead going into the second period. SJU opened up the second with a Steve O'Brien goal 35 seconds in. The score came off a pass from Mike O'Neill. Siena rallied to put two more on the board, increasing its lead to 8-1 but O'Brien managed to find the back of the net again, with two minutes left in the quarter.

Saint Joseph's defense hankered down, holding Siena without a score most of the third period. Captain Alex McColough notched a goal just before the five-minute mark for his 13th of the season. The Saints were able to add one more goal to their lead before the quarter ended, making it 9-3 going into the fourth.

The Hawks started to get some real momentum going in the final quarter, scoring four goals in the top nine minutes. Dionot converted on a pass from Alex Lopes for his first of the game. Lopes, Chad Dudley and Dionot all scored unassisted goals as well. It wasn't enough to past the Siena lead as they added four of their own in the same time, both tames leaving the final six minutes scoreless.

RJ Bopf started in goal for the Hawks, recording six saves in 45:00 minutes. Chase Stewart also saw action with 15:00 minutes and two saves. SJU grabbed 29 groundballs for the day and completed 19 clears.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, April 25th against Wagner. The conference match-up will be the Hawks' last home game of the season. Game time is set for 3:30 pm but be sure to arrive early as the Seniors will be honored before the game.
