ST. LOUIS - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped its doubleheader at Saint Louis Sunday afternoon as Hawks fell 6-5 in eight innings in the opener and 3-1 in game two.

In game one, Saint Joseph's jumped out to 1-0 edge in the top of the third as junior Carly Kinkler scored on a Saint Louis fielding error.

The lead was short lived as the Billikens knotted the game at one in the bottom of the third as Allison Appenfeller led off with a home run off SJU junior pitcher Lauren Cognigni.

The Hawks opened a 2-1 edge in the top of the fourth on solo home run by Saint Joseph's freshman Brooke Darreff. Again, SJU's lead didn't last long as the Billikens tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run homer by Annie Dillinger.

Saint Joseph's tied the game in the top of the sixth as the Hawks took advantage of two Saint Louis errors allowing sophomore Erika Rosenwinkel to score.

After a scoreless seventh, the Hawks tallied a pair of runs in the top of the eighth on RBIs by Darreff and classmate Alyssa Neilson.

Three outs away from a win, the Hawks failed to keep their lead as the Billikens rallied for three runs. Christy Ernst tied the game with a two-RBI single, and with two outs, came around to score on a single by Appenfeller for the win.

In the nightcap, Saint Louis jumped out to a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the fourth as Nicki Jost hit a solo homer off Hawks' sophomore pitcher Dani Gonzales.

The Billikens extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth on a two-RBI double by Jill Pursell.

Saint Joseph's fought back though in the top of the seventh as Saint Joseph's freshman Brooke Darreff led with a double. The Hawks would score their first run on a RBI ground out by junior Kate Falasca. With two outs and a runner on, the Hawks couldn't capitalize as Saint Louis' Stacy Gillette got the final SJU batter to pop up to end the game.

With the losses, Saint Joseph's falls to 12-24 overall and 5-11 in Atlantic 10 play. The Billikens improve to 25-30 overall and 10-7 in the conference.

Saint Joseph's caps its 2007 season next Friday and Saturday, May 4-5, at St. Bonaventure.
