NORFOLK, Va. - For the second straight game a cold-shooting half did in the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team as the Hawks shot just 28 percent (7-of-25) from the field in the first half as they fell to Old Dominion, 74-51, Friday evening at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Saint Joseph's and Old Dominion started slowly, with the Monarchs holding just a 7-5 edge at 16:19. From there though, Old Dominion began to pull away, using a 17-8 run over the next 6:18 to open a 24-12 edge on a three pointer by Jasmine Parker.

Junior guard Amy Gillespie answered back for the Hawks with a three pointer to cut the deficit to 24-15, but Saint Joseph's offense went cold from there. The Hawks scored just four points over the final nine minutes as Old Dominion opened up a 36-19 edge.

The Monarchs shot 42.4 percent (14-of-33) from the field in the first stanza, including six from behind the arc, nearly matching their season high of seven within the opening 20 minutes.

Down 17 at the half, Saint Joseph's would cut the deficit to 15 three times, but that would be as close as it got as Old Dominion held a 20-point lead over the final 7:32.

For the game, the Hawks shot 19-of-58 from the field (32.8 percent), 4-of-14 from three-point range (28.6 percent) and 9-of-14 from the foul line (64.3 percent). At the other end, Old Dominion went 26-of-67 from the floor (38.8 percent), 40 percent from three-point range with a season-best eight from behind the arc and 14-of-21 from the foul line. The Monarchs out rebounded the Hawks 51-35, including 19 on the offensive end.

Individually, junior guard Mariame Djouara was the lone Hawk in double figures, scoring 12 points to go with five rebounds. Junior forward Brittany Ford added eight points and a team-best nine rebounds, while sophomore forward Dominique Bryant added eight points off the bench and senior guard Mary Kate McDade had a team-high six assists to go with eight points.

Parker led ODU with 19 points, while Shadasia Green posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Sunday when the Hawks host Akron at 1 p.m. at he Gallagher Center.
