Box Score

KINGSTON, RI - The Saint Joseph's softball team split its doubleheader at Rhode Island Sunday afternoon, winning the opener 9-4, but falling to the Rams in game two, 2-1.

The Hawks opened game one with three runs in the top of the first as juniors Erika Rosenwinkel, Dani Gonzales and freshman Laura Cardone each collected a RBi apiece.

The Rams (13-25,3-9 A-10) cut the deficit to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the second, eventually taking the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-RBI double by Stef Poedubicky.

Saint Joseph's offense took over in the top of the fifth, exploding for six runs. Rosenwinkel put SJU up for good with a three-RBI triple, while Gonzales, junior Sarah Falk and sophomore Brooke Darreff each picked up a RBI.

Gonzales then limited the Rams' offense, earning the victory for SJU. She finished the game with six strike outs over seven innings.

In the nightcap, the Rams struck first in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs on RBI singles by Poedubicky and Christine Gentile off SJU starter Lauren Cognigni.

The Hawks cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the sixth, behind a RBI-double by Darreff, but SJU couldn't tally the tying run over the final innings as Rhode Island hung on for the win.

With the split, the Hawks move to 4-6 in Atlantic 10 play and 8-17 overall.
