Hawks' Softball Drops Close 3-2 Decision at Drexel

April 8, 2008

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped a close, 3-2 decision at cross-town rival Drexel Tuesday afternoon at Drexel Field. Juniors Erika Rosenwinkel and Sarah Falk collected a RBI apiece to lead the Hawks' offense, with Falk drilling her first home run of the season.

The Dragons jumped out to a 1-0 edge in the bottom half of the second as Drexel's Molly Dacey hit a sol home run off Saint Joseph's senior pitcher Lauren Cognigni.

After collecting a two-out single in the bottom-half of the third, Drexel extended its lead to 3-0 on a two-run homer by Amanda Hastings.

The Hawks fought back, cutting the deficit to 3-1 in the top of fourth as freshman shortstop Dana Bieniek scored on a RBI-double off the bat of Rosenwinkel.

Coming to the mound in relief, freshman hurler Lauren Pembleton held Drexel in check, allowing Saint Joseph's offense to cut the deficit again in the fifth.

Inserted as a pinch hitter, Falk came up big for the Hawks, drilling a solo shot and chasing Drexel's starting pitcher Ellen Boundy.

Unfortunately for Saint Joseph's, its offense couldn't muster a tying run over the final few innings, dropping Saint Joseph's to 7-14 on the year.

Drexel improved to 20-11 with the win.

The Hawks return to action this Friday, April 11, at Massachusetts, with the first pitch coming at 3 p.m.
