Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. - Saint Joseph's senior Marisa Pizzi scored her third game-winning goal of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Hawk field hockey team notched a 2-0 win over Virginia Commonwealth University. Redshirt freshman Kelly Swanick made seven saves to record her second shutout of the season.

Neither team was able to tally in the first half, but VCU (3-2) managed to outshoot SJU by a 5-2 margin. Only one Ram effort made it on goal, while both SJU attempts were saved.

The Rams continued the shot barrage in the second half, but Saint Joseph's (4-1) broke through first, as Pizzi put a rebound past VCU goalkeeper Laura Baker to give the Hawks the lead.

Junior Anne Schreuders then tallied her third goal of the season with no time remaining on the clock to set the final margin of victory.

Swanick withstood the Ram assault in the second half, fending off six VCU shots to preserve the shutout victory. Baker made five saves in defeat for the Rams.

There will be no rest for the Hawks as SJU will remain in Virginia for a Sunday afternoon game against William and Mary. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
