WASHINGTON, D.C. -
For the third time this season, the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team forced double overtime versus an opponent. And for the third time, the game went the entire 110 minutes as SJU earned a 1-1 draw at George Washington on Friday, bringing the Hawks' record to 4-4-3 overall and 1-1-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
Saint Joseph's got on the board in the eighth minute off a corner kick. With the ball drilled into the George Washington box, SJU sophomore Megan Crable made a play for the ball, forcing a GW defender to misplay it and head it into her own net.
SJU's freshman keeper Christine Neal made one save in the half to give the Hawks a one-goal edge after 45 minutes.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, their lead didn't last long into the second stanza as George Washington's Ashley Starks quickly got down the field, and drilled a shot that skipped over Neal as she charged out to play the ball, tying the game at 1-1 at 45:39.
The game remained tied through regulation and two overtime sessions, with the Colonials (3-4-4, 0-1-2 A-10) posting 10 shots, with SJU recording just six over the remaining time. George Washington finished the game outshooting Saint Joseph's 16-8 and held a 13-7 edge in corner kicks.
Between the pipes, Neal made five saves to move her record to 2-4-3 on the year.
Saint Joseph's returns to action this Sunday at Richmond at 1 p.m.
