PHILADELPHIA -
Saint Joseph's sophomore Theresa Testa was selected as the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, the conference office announced. It is the first weekly honor of her career.
Katie Kelly of Massachusetts was the other co-recipient of the award.
Testa scored SJU's lone goal in the 2-1 double-overtime loss at La Salle on Friday afternoon. She tallied midway through the first half to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage. The lead held until the closing seconds before the Explorers equalized to send the match into extra time.
The Media, Pa. native struck again on Sunday afternoon, opening the scoring with what turned out to be the game-winning goal just under 10 minutes into the contest on a penalty corner opportunity. She later assisted on SJU's second goal in the eventual 3-1 win at West Chester. That victory put the Hawks in control of their own destiny in regards to the Atlantic 10 championship.
Should Saint Joseph's win its remaining two league games (at home against Richmond and at Saint Louis), SJU will guarantee itself at least a share of the regular season title for the first time since 1995.
The Hawks will first close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a Tuesday night game at Villanova. The contest between the local rivals is set for 7:00 p.m.
