Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Nicole McCreight scored two goals and Hannah Rogers added a goal and an assist as the Saint Joseph's field hockey team won for the third time in its last four games, earning a 5-2 victory over Saint Louis on Friday at Buckley Field.

Head coach Michelle Finegan, senior Nicole McCreight, and sophomores Leigh Deininger and Kortney Smith spoke with SJUHawks.com after the field hockey team's 5-2 win over Saint Louis on Friday. The video will load after a brief advertisement.

McCreight has now tallied 14 goals on the season, the sixth-highest single-season total in SJU history. Her 31 points are currently tied for the sixth-best single-season mark as well.

Saint Louis (0-17 overall, 0-4 Atlantic 10) got on board first as Nicole Kent pushed a rebound past Kelly Swanick to give the Billikens a 1-0 lead with 12:40 to go in the first half.

Saint Joseph's (6-10 overall, 3-1 Atlantic 10) responded with a flurry of goals to finish the period. McCreight scored with 7:50 remaining after SLU goalkeeper Alex LaBarge came out of the cage to stop a run by Therese Doyle. The ball trickled behind LaBarge and McCreight got a stick on it to put away the equalizer.

The senior also notched her second of the game as a result of a play by Doyle just over a minute later. The pair went on a long run into the SLU end before Doyle sent a crossing pass into the arc. It landed right on the stick of McCreight, who fired it into the cage to give the Hawks the lead.

The Hawks doubled their lead with 2:48 to go in the half as Casey Fry took the ball to the top of the arc and threaded a pass through the Billiken defense to Rogers, who found the left side of the cage open for her fourth goal of the season.

With no time left on the clock, SJU was granted a penalty corner attempt, and Katie Maguire made it count for her first goal in a Hawk uniform. Rogers and Caitlyn Crane assisted on the play.

Five minutes into the second half, Doyle had a shot saved by LaBarge, but Theresa Testa scooped up the rebound and put it away for SJU's fifth and final goal of the match.

Lauryn Smith would later close out the scoring with just over eight minutes remaining, taking a centering feed from Tori Lycett for her second goal of the year.

The Hawks will travel to Massachusetts for a noon game on Sunday. First place will be on the line as the Minutewomen are alone on top of the Atlantic 10 table at 4-0 in conference play.
