Women's Track Takes First at Lafayette

Easton, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's track team won eight events and scored in every event it competed in to take first place in the Lafayette 8 Way meet on Saturday. Senior Nicole McMullen led the way winning the long jump, 200 meter dash, and anchored two relay wins, while freshman Maureen O'Donnell broke a school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

O'Donnell finished second in the steeplechase with a time of in 11:14.50 which battered the record (11:35.07) her sister, Erin, set in 2005. Samantha Peters also scored in the event with a fifth place finish (12:06.75).

McMullen ran the 200 meter in 25.45 seconds while Stefani Zabilowicz and Ashley Williams also scored in the event with fifth (26.68) and sixth (26.95) place finishes, respectively.

McMullen won the long jump with a mark of 17'8 3/4" while three other Hawks racked up points in the event. Erin Vanderhoof finished third (16'10") and Beth Getty took fifth (16'1/2") while Hannah Boyce placed sixth (15'11 1/2").

In the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays, McMullen ran the last leg to bring the Hawks squad consisting of Williams, Emily Coldren, and Kierstin Quinn from behind in both events to round out team finishes of 48.71 seconds (4x100) and 4:02.44 (4x400).

In addition to running the third leg in the winning relays, Quinn won the 400 meter dash (1:00.56) while freshman Shannon Geddes took second in 1:01.37.

Freshman Sarah Walker won the 1,500 meter (4:49.16) while Aimee Chegwidden placed fourth in 4:54.34. Walker also earned a third-place finish in the 800 meter in 2:20.05.

In the triple jump Nohjay Nimpson took first with a mark of 10'3/4" while in the high jump Vanderhoof placed fourth (5'1") for the Hawks. Vanderhoof also scored in the javelin throw, finishing sixth with a toss of 118'9".

Winning the eighth event for SJU was Zabilowicz in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.04 seconds, while freshman Francesca D'Angelo finished third (15.34).

The final (14th) event the Hawks competed and scored in was the 3,000 meter run in which Kathleen Casey took third (10:23.69), Chegwidden placed fourth (10:24.92) and Christina Morelli clocked in at 10:25.84 for a fifth-place finish.

Saint Joseph's competes next on Friday and Saturday at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Pa.
